I have to give credit where credit is due and say Tony Basilio has been on top of the Bar Knoxville Brawl investigation. If his sources and inclinations are true, Vol fans will breath a sigh of relief .
It's safe to say that a lot of the details and names from that night are being spun in the media in the UT players favor. And it definitely doesn't hurt that the surveillance camera's at Bar Knoxville "weren't recording" the night of the incident. While the later probably has more to do with the establishment not wanting to be liable for underage drinkers, the former may be a move that Dooley learned in his short time practicing law. Although this is only speculation, it is the opinion of many people "in the know."
As for Hughes, probably the smartest thing he has ever done was immediately getting a lawyer the day after the incident. Hughes is set to give a formal statement to police tomorrow in the presence of his attorney.
The thing to watch for right now is whether or not Chase Nelson was at the bar and whether or not he started the fight like the GVX says. It's interesting because the GVX story was the first time Nelson's name has been mentioned, and the UTAD is saying that Nelson wasn't at the bar according to their investigation. Could the witnesses be confusing Hughes and Nelson for each other? It's possible. Above is a picture of both Hughes and Nelson. Could you tell me which one is which if you didn't know the player's number?
